| Crossing Latitudes owners Tim and Lena Conlan, have over 40 years of combined experience, teaching outdoor skills to people of all levels.
Our credentials include designing instructor training programs for nationally recognized organizations in North America, directing and coordinating sea kayaking programs in Alaska, Canada, Mexico and Chile. We wrote the first sea kayaking instructors manual for the National Outdoor Leadership School (NOLS) and several of Crossing Latitudes leaders teach First Aid Courses through the Wilderness Medicine Institute of NOLS (WMI of NOLS) both in Europe and in the US.
Sea Kayaking Skills Courses
Our two and three day comprehensive courses are offered both to first-timers and people with previous paddling experience. We help people become confident paddlers, to respect the sea and master fundamental sea kayaking skills. We paddle in a variety of conditions, covering paddle strokes, seamanship and capsize recovery procedures. Theoretical classes such as equipment selection, hypothermia and ocean hazards are taught by our experienced staff.

Does your staff have the proper First Aid training? Are they ready to take care of an injured participant? When did you or your staff last take a first aid course? Are you ready?
Wilderness First Aid is different from the Red Cross or urban first aid. Focus is on initial and prolonged care for a patient in the backcountry. Sign up for a course and will receive a two year certification with the Wilderness Medicine Institute of NOLS (http://www.nols.edu/wmi/). These courses are open to anyone with an interest in the outdoors.
Crossing Latitudes are hosting these courses for many scout organizations, outdoor schools and outfitters - if you are interested in having a WMI of NOLS first aid course just for your staff please contact us.
These Wilderness First Aid courses are for people who recognizes the importance of having first aid skills if you spend time in the outdoors. We have climbers, trekkers, paddlers, blueberry-pickers, parents, teachers, outdoor guides, sailors, scout leaders, fishermen and hunters on these courses - all learning about how to care for an injured or sick friend.
WMI of NOLS is based in the United States but our courses are taught in the following countries: United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Sweden, Norway, India, Chile, Tanzania, Kenya, South Africa, Mexico, Costa Rica, Columbia, UK, Germany and Sri Lanka.
